A speed camera in a Nottinghamshire village has been vandalised within weeks of being put up.
Residents living on Awsworth Lane in Cossall had long campaigned for cameras after several accidents caused by speeding motorists.
But now one of the village's two new cameras has been painted over, rendering it ineffective.
There are plans to clean up the damage, but campaigner Rob Bannister said many residents were very angry.
He said: "There has been a big backlash against speed cameras - and in some cases I can understand why - but this is a camera that villagers have campaigned for years and years to have installed.
"We've had so many accidents in the village due to speed and it just seems a real shame.
"It's a bit of a kick in the teeth really to the local villagers who were hoping that this was going to spell the end of all their worries about dangerous driving in the village."
