Two boys, believed to be those seen wandering in a Nottingham street in their pyjamas, have been traced.

The alarm was raised in the early hours of Wednesday when a taxi driver reported seeing the children alone on Cinderhill Road in Bulwell.

At the height of the search for the boys, more than 100 police officers and support staff were involved.

Officers said they had now spoken to two local boys aged under seven and their mother about the incident.

A police spokesman said: "Whilst it is difficult to corroborate information when dealing with children of this age, officers believe that they are the same two as those who were seen on several occasions yesterday morning by members of the public who contacted police.

"Police believe the youngsters left home in the early hours of Wednesday morning without their mother's knowledge but later returned home of their own accord and then set off to school as normal."

Police said over the past two days they had been liaising with agencies including Children's Services, Nottingham City Council and the Education Department, and this work continues with the children concerned.
