Two in hospital after A52 crash at Whatton

Two men have been taken to hospital after a two-vehicle collision which closed a major Nottinghamshire road.

The crash, involving a Mercedes C-Class car and a Ford Transit van, happened on the A52 near the prison at Whatton, at about 0725 GMT.

The driver of the Mercedes had to be cut free by firefighters and both he and the van driver were taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.

The road was closed in both directions for nearly five hours.

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said the crash had caused "severe traffic problems".
