Woman sexually assaulted in Nottingham city centre

A 19-year-old woman in Nottingham has been seriously sexually assaulted, police have said.

The woman was visiting an address on North Sherwood Street between 1800 and 1900 GMT on Thursday when she was followed into the property by a man.

She was then assaulted. Police patrols in the area have been stepped up and house-to-house inquiries are taking place.

The man is described as black, about 6ft 2in tall, in his mid to late-20s.

'Distinctive' description

Police said he was clean shaven with a line shaved through his left eyebrow and had short, black, afro hair with a pattern shaved into it on the right side of his head.

Supt Mike Manley from Nottinghamshire Police said: "We don't often see things like this taking place, which makes the very nature of this attack concerning.

"We believe the offender, who has distinctive aspects to his description, will be known by someone.

"Specially-trained officers are supporting the victim who has been left extremely traumatised by the ordeal and is being comforted by relatives," he said.

A man was arrested after the incident but was released without charge.

Anyone with information about the attack or the attacker is asked to contact police.
