A 21-year-old man sustained a stab wound to his leg when he was attacked by a gang in Nottingham.
The group approached him on Peel Street at about 1830 GMT on Friday, then led him across Mansfield Road, towards Huntingdon Street, and assaulted him.
The victim needed hospital treatment for a minor injury.
The attackers were black and mixed race, aged between 15 and 18, with local accents. They wore dark tracksuits and had their faces covered.
Police believe the assault could be connected to an earlier incident where a dark-coloured Vauxhall Astra was seen leaving the scene of a collision on North Sherwood Street.
Detectives have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
