A lorry driver has been charged with causing the death of a motorist in a crash in Mansfield.

Alan Allsop, an 85-year-old local man, was seriously injured when his Nissan Pixo Acenta was in collision with the Renault HGV in the town on Tuesday.

He was later pronounced dead at King's Mill Hospital.

A 45-year-old Czech national has been charged with causing death by careless driving and is due to appear before Mansfield magistrates later.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the crash, which happened at the junction of Cauldwell Road and the A60 Nottingham Road at about 0910 GMT.

Officers are particularly keen to trace a number of drivers who are thought to have seen what happened, but did not stop at the scene.
