A1 Newark crash injury lorry driver dies

A lorry driver who was injured in a crash on the A1 in Nottinghamshire has died.

His Renault collided with a large farm truck, known as a root crop harvester, on the northbound carriageway, near Newark, just before noon on Monday.

He suffered significant leg injuries and was airlifted to Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry, but died hours later.

The 66-year-old driver of the agricultural vehicle was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Police have appealed for witnesses.

Following the collision both south and northbound carriageways were closed between North Muskam and the A46 junction at Newark.

Both sections have since reopened.
