Police probe black swan shooting in Arnold

A rare black swan has been shot dead with an airgun at a Nottinghamshire park.

Visitors to Arnot Hill Park, in Arnold, found the dying bird at the side of the pond on Wednesday and raised the alarm.

A post-mortem test revealed the male swan had sustained a pellet-wound to the neck.

Nottinghamshire Police said: "We are determined to find whoever is responsible... we are viewing CCTV and increasing patrols in the area."

A spokesman for Gedling Borough Council, which owns the park, said: "This is a horrific attack that has devastated both staff and park users.

"We strongly urge anyone who has any information on this appalling attack to contact the police."
