Youth arrested after person dies in Arnold house fire

A youth has been arrested after a fatal fire at a house in Nottingham.

Fire crews from Arnold, Carlton and Stockhill stations were called to Georgia Drive, in Arnold, at about 0100 BST on Monday.

Firefighters using breathing apparatus and thermal imaging cameras took about two hours to bring the fire under control.

A body was found but police said they had been unable to identify the victim or reveal if it was a man or a woman.

Nottinghamshire Police said the arrested youth was being questioned.

Det Ch Insp Kate Meynell said: "We are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire.

"I am appealing for witnesses or anybody with information to contact us immediately, in particular any nearby residents who have found discarded clothing or items in their gardens or on the road side."

A large area around the property has been cordoned off while forensic officers examine the scene.
