Fatal crash near Papplewick referred to IPCC

A crash in which a man was killed and another critically injured has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Kyle Dooley, 18, of Top Valley, died after a Vauxhall Vectra left the B6011 and collided with hay bales near Papplewick at 2350 BST on Monday.

The force has made a mandatory referral to the IPCC, because a police car had been in the vicinity at the time.

A police spokeswoman said there had been no authorised pursuit.

A 19-year-old man, believed to have been driving the car, was taken to hospital and and had emergency surgery.

The other man in the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighters said the vehicle was alight but neither person was in the car when emergency services arrived.

The B6011 was closed for investigation from the junction with Moor Road to the junction with the A60 and reopened at about 1000 BST on Tuesday.

Nottinghamshire Police has asked anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them.
