Lane closed after chemical spill on A1 Nottinghamshire

One southbound lane remains closed on the A1 in Nottinghamshire following a lorry fire and chemical spillage.

Crews were called to the A1 at North Muskham at about 0100 BST on Wednesday to tackle a lorry on fire and a spillage of irritant chemicals.

The southbound carriageway between the B6325 junction and Winthorpe Island was closed on Wednesday.

The road has partially reopened and is expected to reopen fully later. Drivers suffered major delays.

A Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said 4,500 litres of water were used at the scene and the Environment Agency was brought in to help with the clean-up operation.
