Nottinghamshire bogus doctor sex assaults linked

Police in Nottinghamshire are linking two sexual assaults on elderly women by a man who claimed to be a doctor.

A man, who was smartly dressed, went to the home of a 74-year-old in Eastwood and told her he was her doctor before sexually assaulting her on Friday.

An 89-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in her home in Sutton-in-Ashfield in a similar incident on 24 May.

The offender is believed to be of slim build and aged between 40 and 60.

'Despicable crimes'

Det Ch Insp Andy Gowan, said: "We believe these incidents are linked and were probably carried out by the same man.

"A medical appointment can be easily verified with their local doctors' practice.

"I urge people to exercise caution and ensure they are completely satisfied a caller is genuine before letting them inside their homes.

"The victims are being supported by specially trained police officers and we are working with them to try and identify who is responsible for these despicable crimes."

Det Ch Insp Gowan said officers were carrying out house-to-house inquiries and reviewing CCTV footage to identify the offender.

He appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
