A 22-year-old man has been injured in a shooting in Nottingham.

Officers were called to Birkin Avenue, Hyson Green, at 17:30 GMT on Friday after members of the public reported sounds of a gun being fired.

The area has been cordoned off and this remains in place while forensic investigations are carried out.

Police were then called to the Queen's Medical Centre, at about 18:00 GMT, where a man had been treated for a gunshot injury.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokeswoman said: "The incident is being linked to a report of a man attending hospital with gunshot injuries.

"He has since been discharged from hospital and inquiries are ongoing."

Police said it was too early to say whether or not the incident was gang-related.

The weapon has not yet been recovered.
