Worksop bus station plan gets £50,000 design boost

Fifty thousand pounds is to be spent on designs for a potential new bus station in Nottinghamshire.

The county council is looking for suitable land in Worksop for the project, which would replace the existing facilities in Hardy Street.

It said it was committed to building a new station, as those in Retford and Newark had boosted bus use.

The authority has also confirmed it was taking over the town's travel information office from Stagecoach.

Many residents have campaigned for a new station, saying the current on-street hub was difficult to use.

Councillor Richard Jackson said: "We know that Stagecoach is pulling out of the information facility and the time is right for us to take that over.

"I hope it is just for the short term because we will have a modern bus station in Worksop just as soon as we possibly can.

"But we didn't want to leave Worksop without any information point at the moment so it was only right that we step in to keep that service going."
