A 56-year-old man has been jailed for four years for manslaughter after he admitted killing his wife at their home on Christmas Day.

Stephen Woodward, of Bilborough, admitted manslaughter of his wife Gillian, also 56, on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Nottingham Crown Court was told psychiatric reports concluded he was suffering from a depressive illness.

A post-mortem examination showed she had died from a stab wound.

Mrs Woodward's family said after the hearing: "We appreciate the way the police and courts have dealt with the tragic death of our mum in a fair and compassionate way."
