Carlton Town FC clubhouse damaged by burglars

Burglars have caused thousands of pounds of damage at Carlton Town FC's ground in Nottinghamshire.

Pool tables were smashed, games machines tipped over and a new kit was stolen from the clubhouse.

The club's ground, which was broken in to on Saturday morning, was also targeted last October, when the entrance was torched by arsonists.

Club officials fear insurance payouts will not cover the cost of repairs as a result of the damage.

Support messages

The club's chairman Mick Garton said the extent of the damage this time had left him shocked.

"I just had to walk round the pitch and I thought 'I've been chairman 10 years and I just don't need this any more' and I was considering walking away.

"But you let them win if you do that - and the messages of support I have had and the response of the committee and players, that picks you back up."

He added they would struggle to find the £1,250 insurance excess and they were still unsure if everything was covered.
