Firefighters are still at the scene of a fire which broke out at a recycling plant in the early hours of Saturday.

At its height, more than 40 firefighters tackled the blaze at the recycling transfer centre in Shireoaks Road, Worksop.

Station manager Glenn Mears said the fire was being allowed to burn out in a controlled environment.

Two fire crews were still at the scene on Monday evening to stop the fire from spreading.

Mr Mears said: "This was an extremely resource-intensive incident which, at its peak, involved over 40 firefighters, eight fire engines and several specialist support vehicles.

"The crews did a great job in containing the fire in one building and preventing it from spreading to an adjacent building and workshop, and this continues to be our priority."

He said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
