A man and a woman have been arrested in a murder investigation after two pedestrians were hit by a car in Nottinghamshire.

The men were found in Southwell Lane, Kirkby in Ashfield, at about 19:45 BST on Saturday.

A 29-year-old died at the scene despite being treated at the scene by emergency workers, while the other man is now in a stable condition in hospital.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said the man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, while the woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Insp Heather Sutton said: "This is understandably shocking for local residents but it is thought to have been an isolated incident.

"We have upped patrols in the area to provide reassurance and are working closely with detectives to establish the circumstances of the incident."
