Oxford doctor suspended from surgeries

A GP in Oxfordshire has been suspended from practising in the county, NHS Oxfordshire has confirmed.

Dr Mark Huckstep worked at the Kendall Crescent Health Centre and at the Wolvercote Surgery in Oxford.

An investigation is being held into the care he provided.

NHS Oxfordshire said locum GPs had been employed to make sure the practices could continue running, but would not comment further.

A statement from NHS Oxfordshire said Dr Huckstep was suspended from the Oxfordshire Medical Performer's List, meaning he is unable to practise as a GP in the county until the investigation has been completed.

It added: "We are not able to comment further due to the on-going investigation by the Primary Care Trust (PCT); however patient safety is of the upmost importance for NHS Oxfordshire.

"As Dr Huckstep provides GP services at both Kendall Crescent Health Centre and Wolvercote Surgery, the PCT has been working with him to ensure patient care is sustained through the employment of locum GPs so that both practices can be run as normal and patient care is continued."
