Tyres of 17 vehicles slashed in Oxford

The tyres of 17 vehicles were slashed in what police described as a "mindless" act in Oxford.

Cars, vans and people carriers were targeted in Mathar Road and Stowford Road, in the Barton area, between midnight and 0430 BST on Friday.

Police believe a knife was used to slash the tyres, causing more than £7,000 of damage.

Eyewitnesses told police they heard a group of young people shouting in the street at about 0430 BST.

Officers are appealing for witnesses.

Sgt Jim Holmes, of Thames Valley Police, said: "The Barton area was showing an improvement in anti-social behaviour and crime but this mindless act was aimed at undermining all that hard work."
