Cherwell council buys Banbury rugby club's ground

Published

An Oxfordshire council has bought the home of its local rugby club from a property developer and investor.

Cherwell District Council bought Bodicote Park - the home of Banbury RUFC - from Russell Harrison Plc for £240,000.

The company took over the site in July after its former owners ran into financial difficulties.

The council will be obliged to build a pavilion and make the site available for public sporting use.

Councillor Norman Bolster said: "Although these are difficult times for everyone, including the council, the acquisition of Bodicote Park provides an opportunity for the council to provide facilities for public sport which will be a benefit to the area."
