Oxfordshire village conservation areas expand

Two conservation areas in Oxfordshire have been expanded to protect them from unsuitable development.

Boundaries have been extended in Cumnor village and Bourton, near Swindon, following consultations by Vale of White Horse District Council.

More of Cumnor will be protected, including areas around Leys Road, Appleton Road and the High Street.

The Bourton conservation area will be extended to include Pinewood School and Lower Bourton.

Conservation areas are defined as areas of special architectural or historic interest where the character should be preserved.

Planning councillor Mary de Vere said: "We are lucky to have so many historic and picturesque villages throughout the district, and it is important that we ensure these special areas continue to be protected."
