Two arrested after Oxford armed street attacks

Two teenagers have been arrested after two armed attacks against people as they walked in Oxford.

A man threatened a 22-year-old woman with a gun and stole her handbag near the junction of Oxford Road and Littlehay Road on Sunday night.

Shortly afterwards a 21-year-old man was threatened with a knife by two men in Cowley Road and his bag was stolen.

Thames Valley Police arrested two youths, aged 16 and 17. An imitation handgun was seized by officers.

The attacks took place at 2325 and 2345 BST.

Det Con Ben Yeats said: "Please be assured that we are taking these incidents very seriously and significant resources have been deployed as part of the investigation."
