A motorcyclist killed in Oxfordshire was a soldier who had been awarded the Queens Gallantry Medal.

Warrant Officer Class Two Wayne Cuckson died in a crash with a car in Wootton, between Abingdon and Oxford, last week.

WO2 Cuckson, of 12 Logistic Support Regiment, The Royal Logistic Corps, had served in the Army for 22 years.

He was recognised for saving a police officer when a British military helicopter was shot down in Northern Ireland in 1994.

"The thoughts of his colleagues within Abingdon Garrison are with his family and friends at this difficult time," a Ministry of Defence spokesman said.

WO2 Cuckson died at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
