The body of a man has been found in the River Thames in Oxfordshire.

Emergency services spent two hours looking for a swimmer after reports that a man was in difficulties close to the marina at Abingdon.

A member of the public had lost sight of the man, in his 30s, shortly before 1630 BST on Friday.

Thames Valley Police revealed that a body was recovered later at 1830 BST and although the death was unexplained, it was not thought to be suspicious.

When the alarm was raised the Thames Valley police helicopter was called in along with about a dozen firefighters and a number of boats.

An underwater search unit also took part in the search.
