Witney shops targeted by card scam woman

A woman who carried out a shopping card scam at shops in Oxfordshire is being sought by police.

She went into three shops in Witney asking for £350 to be added to a shopping card, which can be used for online buying.

In each case the cashier topped up the card, but when asked for cash the woman claimed to be £5 short.

She said she would go to get the full amount, but never returned. She then used the card to shop online.

Detectives said the thefts happened on Tuesday evening in the Witney, Long Hanborough and Minster Lovell areas.

Sgt Mike Welsh urged shopkeepers to be vigilant.

"The suspect may have tried to steal from other shops," he said.
