West Oxfordshire council recycling has 'almost doubled'

  • Published

An Oxfordshire council says it has almost doubled its recycling rate in the past six months after a new collection service was introduced.

West Oxfordshire District Council said 66% of the district's waste was being recycled, compared with 34% before the scheme began in November 2010.

The council introduced weekly food waste collections and optional free fortnightly garden waste collections.

More than 30,000 households have taken up the garden waste collections.
