Oxford's Olympics chaplain is urging religions to work together to make the most of the 2012 Games.

The Reverend Janet Binns said: "There is a huge opportunity for our churches to reach out for our communities."

Ms Binns heads a planning group drawing together ideas for Olympics-related activities.

The project has launched a new website with ideas and resources for people wanting to stage their own events.

Churches in the diocese of Oxford are encouraged to participate in a range of ways from serving drinks to spectators to praying for the athletes.

Ms Binns said: "There is a huge amount we can be doing but we need to start early so we can talk to our local authorities as well as other organisations in our community to see how we can work together."
