Woman saved from house fire in Oxford recovers in hospital

A woman is recovering in hospital after being rescued from a house fire in Oxford.

Crews were called to Cowley Road on Friday night. They found the woman upstairs and carried her outside where paramedics treated her.

She was suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Station manager Paul Molloy said that the woman was "lucky to be alive".

He added: "The fire involving the sofa in the lounge sent thick acrid smoke throughout the house trapping the woman on the first floor.

"This is a case where a working smoke alarm could have given vital time to make her escape."

Thames Valley Police and Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service are investigating how the blaze started.
