Twyford girl, 13, victim of attempted abduction

A man driving a dark van attempted to abduct a 13-year-old girl on Boxing Day.

Police said it happened in Cawley Road, Twyford, near Banbury, shortly before 19:00 GMT.

After driving past the girl, the man opened his window and tried to reach out towards her while mumbling something to her.

The girl ran off down an alleyway between Rochester Way to Kemps Road before reaching a friend's house.

The van driver is described as black, aged about 40, and of a large build, wearing a black hat.

Thames Valley Police are appealing for any witnesses.

Det Insp Steve Raffield from Oxford CID said: "This was a scary experience for the young girl.

"We want to hear from anyone who saw a dark-coloured van, possibly green, in the area at the time.

"I also want to assure the community that incidents of this nature are extremely rare and officers are out in the area offering advice and reassurance."
