Man tries to snatch boy from Blackbird Leys street

A man has tried to abduct a young boy who was playing outside his home in Blackbird Leys in Oxford.

The boy's mother heard her son talking to the man in the Blackbird Leys area of the city.

When her partner went out to check he found the boy was gone but ran down the street and saw the child with a man who ran off when confronted.

Police would not confirm the age of the boy but he is understood to be under the age of five.

'Incredibly rare'

The abductor managed to lead the child down the road to the junction with Three Corners Road, before being scared off and running off towards Grenoble Road.

The man is described as white, over 6ft tall and of stocky build.

He had short dark hair and was wearing a white Nike t-shirt with a small blue tick on it and black jogging bottoms or jeans.

Det Sgt Mark Stalder said: "Incidents like this are incredibly rare and I want to reassure the community we are doing everything to catch this offender."

He urged anyone who saw the boy being led away from Overbrook Gardens on Saturday, or anything suspicious, to contact police.
