Faringdon flat fire man rescued

A man survived a flat fire which left him "completely blackened by smoke" after being rescued by firefighters.

Fire crews were called to a low-rise block of flats in Russ Avenue, Faringdon, after a neighbour raised the alarm on Tuesday evening.

They found the man in his 30s by using a thermal imaging camera.

Group manager Jason Crapper said: "He was completely blackened by the smoke and therefore very fortunate to have survived."

The man was treated at the scene by ambulance crews and later taken to hospital.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is under way.
