Robbers attack staff at Banbury Co-op with crowbar

An armed robbery has been carried out on a shop in Banbury, Oxfordshire.

Just before 06:00 BST, two men wearing balaclavas, described as slim and in their thirties, entered the Co-op store in Ferriston, police said.

Armed with a crowbar they assaulted female staff members after they were unable to open the safe, one suffered a broken arm.

Police, who have appealed for witnesses, said it is the second robbery at the store this month.

After the robbery the men drove off in a convertible silver Mazda MX5.

Det Con Rebecca McCamley said: "This was obviously a shocking incident for the people inside the shop at the time.

"Although it was quite early, there will have been people around at the time, so I would like to talk to anyone who saw this vehicle or saw anything suspicious."
