Woman sleeping rough raped near Oxford shopping centre

A woman who was sleeping rough has been raped in Oxford.

It happened in an area between the Westgate shopping centre and car park, near the toilets, between 05:00 and 06:00 BST on Wednesday.

The victim, who is in her 40s, reported the attack to Thames Valley Police on Thursday night.

She was taken to a Sexual Assault Referral Centre by police, who said they were pursuing a "number of lines of inquiry".

Det Sgt Matt Jarman called it a "very concerning incident involving a vulnerable woman".

Police are appealing for witnesses.
