Sutton Courtenay waste site expansion plan rejected

Plans to expand and extend operations at Oxfordshire's largest waste site have been turned down by councillors.

FCC Environment had applied to extend its operating hours at its new recycling centre next to its landfill site in Sutton Courtenay.

It also wanted to use the site to process waste before moving it elsewhere.

The county council had been recommended to approve the applications, but at a meeting earlier both were turned down.

The firm said it was disappointed with the decision but had not decided yet whether to appeal against it.

Oxfordshire County Council said the application was turned down because of the adverse impact on residents that would be caused by additional out-of-hours working and additional heavy goods vehicle movements.

A spokesperson for FCC Environment said: "It is very disappointing that the planning committee has voted against its own officer's recommendation that our applications should have been granted planning consent.

"We will take time to appraise the situation and make an announcement in due course as to what our next steps will be."
