Oxford pub drugs raid: Man arrested and cash seized
A man was arrested and cash was seized by police who raided a pub in Oxford in a major drugs operation.
Thames Valley Police carried out a Misuse of Drugs Act warrant at the Nelson pub on Between Towns Road, in Cowley, on Friday night.
A 55-year-old Oxford man was arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply.
The force said a "large amount" of cash was seized from another man under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
The arrested man remains in police custody.
'Widespread drug use'
Police said drugs paraphernalia was also seized.
The raid involved three police support units, dog units, licensing officers, Oxford City Council, the fire service, South Central Ambulance Service and Trading Standards.
Officers also conducted drug swabbing throughout the pub and found "widespread evidence of drug use".
Supt Christian Bunt said there would be extra patrols in the area to provide reassurance to residents.
He said officers would liaise with the pub to "look at any on-going issues", and said the force would "consider if we have sufficient evidence to take the licence to review".
He added the pub had voluntarily agreed to close.
