Two people have been arrested as part of a police investigation into sexual exploitation in Oxford.

The arrests were made at 20:00 GMT on Thursday following a police raid at the Athena Guest House in Cowley Road.

A 45-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman have been held on suspicion of arranging for people to be brought into Britain for the sex trade.

Police later confirmed a further seven properties across Oxford were also searched.

Four women who were taken from the guest house are being cared for by specialist police officers.

Neighbourhood policing teams will be carrying out reassurance patrols on Cowley Road.

Sgt Neil Applegarth, from the East Oxford Neighbourhood Team, said: "We are in the very early stages of this investigation and so I ask if anyone has any information to contact us immediately."
