E.on sub-station fire causes Shrewsbury power cut

More than 4,000 properties have been hit by a power cut caused by a fire at an electricity sub-station in Shropshire.

Abbey Foregate station in Shrewsbury caught fire at about 1550 BST causing more than 4,000 homes and businesses in Shrewsbury to lose power.

E.on said all its customers had been switched to an alternative power line.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said no-one was hurt and the fire was put out by 1628 BST.

E.on engineers remain on site.
