Air, land and water search patrols are continuing for a best man who has not been seen since taking a late-night swim at a Shropshire wedding reception.

Fellow guests raised the alarm after the man from Dudley failed to return from his lake dip at Patshull Park Hotel, Golf and Country Club on Friday.

Police divers and boats are searching the lake which measures about 1 mile (1.6km) long by 440 yards (400m) wide.

A thermal imaging helicopter and police dog handlers are searching the banks.

Staffordshire Police said the missing man was in his late 20s.

'Upsetting circumstances'

Emergency services were first called to the site in Pattingham near Wolverhampton at about 2315 BST on Friday.

The search was called off at about 0350 BST on Saturday and began again later on Saturday morning. It has been continuing ever since.

Hotel general manager Stephen Kimbell said the missing man had been best man at a wedding earlier in the day and was with other guests at the reception.

He said: "He voluntarily went for a swim about 100 yards or so into the lake.

"Other guests realised he could be in trouble and were checking around near the banks. That was about 20 minutes after he left for a swim."

Staffordshire Police said: "These are obviously very upsetting circumstances for the family and friends of the man involved.

"We are doing everything we can to support them and keep them updated about the search."
