Ten people were led to safety after a fire broke out at a shop in Shrewsbury town centre in the early hours.

Eleven flats were cleared near the Multiyork shop in Castle Street, where the fire started on the ground floor, Shropshire fire service said.

Three fire engines were deployed and the incident was brought under control within an hour after the fire service was called at about 0120 BST on Monday.

An investigation into the cause has been opened.
