Spending Review: Shropshire unions organise meetings

  • Published

Campaigners have been out in Shropshire to protest against budget cuts.

Members of the Shropshire and Telford Trades Union Council held a protest in Shrewsbury and asked shoppers to take part in public meetings.

The council also organised two public meetings, one in Shropshire and one in Telford, to take place later.

The government announced its Spending Review on Wednesday, which included 7.1% cuts to council budgets for four years.

Union activists have taken part in a series of protests across the UK as part of a campaign against the government's spending cuts.

The government says the cuts are necessary to reduce the UK's £155bn deficit and strengthen the UK's economy in the long term. It aims to save £83bn in four years.
