Water cut off at 6,000 properties after burst main

More than 6,000 homes and businesses were left without water due to a burst water main.

Severn Trent said the water main burst in the Ludlow area of Shropshire at about 0630 GMT on Monday.

Engineers working to repair the pipe said the majority of properties had had supplies restored within a few hours.

Water was brought in from another network and the burst was finally repaired at about 1420 GMT. The firm has apologised to customers.

A spokesman said: "We have isolated the burst and brought water in from another network of pipes whilst we complete the repairs, which means the majority of customers now have their water supply restored.

"We would like to apologise to our customers affected by the burst main and assure them that we are working as quickly and safely as possible to complete the repairs and get the remaining customers water supply back on."
