Baby seriously injured in crash in Shropshire

A baby suffered a serious head injury when the car she was travelling in was in collision with a lorry.

The crash was at the junction of the A49 and the A456 in Woofferton, near Ludlow, Shropshire, on Wednesday.

The mother of the one-year-old girl suffered a wrist injury and had pain in her chest and neck, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

The baby is in a serious but stable condition at Birmingham Children's Hospital, police said.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "When crews arrived, they found a car that had very significant front end damage. The lorry had side damage.

"The child had suffered a serious head injury.

"After stabilising her condition, she was taken on blue lights to Hereford County Hospital where medics were on standby for her arrival."

A spokeswoman for West Mercia Police said the baby was described as serious but stable after her condition improved overnight.

The driver and passenger in the lorry were not injured.

Anyone with information about the collision was urged to contact police.
