Shropshire Council plea over 2011 recycling

People in Shropshire are being urged to make 2011 a record-breaking year for recycling to help to save council cash.

The county has achieved its best ever results with more than 50% of household waste being kept out of landfill.

Shropshire Council said avoiding anything going into landfill "does us some financial good".

Waste initiatives officer Joy Blizzard said: "There's the cost of having to transport it and dispose of it, but there's also a landfill tax as well."
