Shropshire fire service attends dozens of floodings

The fire service in Shropshire has attended nearly 60 flooding incidents in four days over the festive period.

A spokesman said call-outs to burst pipes and flooding, was causing the service "to stretch resources".

A few businesses have been affected as well as domestic properties.

The spokesman said there had been quite an unusual volume of calls to floodings up to Wednesday, which take resources away from main duties.

He said if people's electricity supply was affected, they should switch it off as well as turning the stop tap off and calling a plumber.

The spokesman added: "All the fire service will do is attend if there's no chance that you can get other assistance.

"We probably won't be able to pump out because the amount of water we need to pump out is quite a lot and all we will probably do is turn off your electricity and tell you to call the plumber."
