Major increase in ambulance calls in Shropshire

Icy pavements and roads led to a surge in the number of calls to the ambulance service in Shropshire on Tuesday.

A total of 147 calls was received from midnight until 1100 GMT, with the majority for slips, trips, falls and road traffic conditions.

The number received by the emergency operations centre was nearly twice as high as predicted.

It was also almost double the amount in the same period last Tuesday, the ambulance service said.
