Police named pedestrian killed on A49 in Shropshire

A man who died after being hit by a car while walking along a road in Shropshire has been named by police.

John Frankland Abbott, 71, of Weston, near Whitchurch, was knocked down as he walked along the A49.

Police said Mr Abbott died in the University Hospital North Staffordshire on Saturday.

He was knocked down by a Suzuki Swift at Prees Green, at around 1140 GMT. He was airlifted to hospital where he died a short time later.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw the accident or the circumstances leading up to it.

The Suzuki was being driven by a woman travelling northbound.

She suffered minor injuries and shock.
