A former hotel has been seriously damaged by a fire which was started deliberately, police said.

Police said the office in the Lea Manor Hotel, near Albrighton, Shropshire, was broken into on Sunday morning and set alight.

The hotel has been shut for two years but the office was still in use.

The main road close to the hotel, the A464, was shut for about two hours while firefighters dealt with the blaze.

Pc Mike Jenkins, of West Mercia Police, said the fire started at 0700 GMT.

"The offenders broke into the building by removing boarding from a window.

"During the subsequent search of the property, the main office was entered and set alight resulting in substantial damage to this area of the building."

Police are appealing for witnesses.
