Thatch roof fire closes A528 Shrewsbury Road

A large fire has destroyed the thatched roof of a cottage in Shropshire.

The emergency services were called to the building in Shrewsbury Road, Cockshutt, near Ellesmere, at 1617 BST on Sunday.

West Mercia Police closed the A528 Shrewsbury Road for about five hours due to smoke causing poor visibility.

Severe damage was caused to two floors and the fire was put out by 1909 BST. No-one was hurt and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
