Teenager guilty of raping woman near Stafford Park

A man has been found guilty of raping a woman by a Shropshire park two years ago.

Jamie Findlater, 19, of Doddington in Telford, was convicted of three counts of rape and one of robbery at Shrewsbury Crown Court on Wednesday.

A woman in her 20s was attacked as she walked to Randlay from Stafford Park in August 2009.

A West Mercia Police spokesman praised the victim for her bravery and determination following the attack.

'Serious impact'

Speaking outside the court, temporary Det Ch Insp Steve Tonks said only Findlater, who will be sentenced next month, knew the reason for the attack.

"I am very satisfied with the outcome at court and hope that this conviction acts as some consolation for the victim and her family as they move forward," he said.

"Only Jamie Findlater himself knows the reason why this attack took place - an attack that has had a serious impact on the lives of many people and caused considerable concern to local residents.

"I cannot praise the victim highly enough for her bravery and determination following the attack and I would personally like to thank her for the patience and dignity she has shown throughout the investigation and what has been a long and complex criminal justice process."
